To be able to have knowledge of one's own national history.

To be able to establish and evaluate the relationship between current events and developments and the past.

To gain the knowledge and skills to use the tools of other social disciplines (such as literary criticism, statistics, art history, archaeology, anthropology, palaeography, law, sociology, philosophy, geography and psychology).

To be able to explain and evaluate political, military, social, economic, cultural, scientific and technological developments on a global, regional or local scale from a historical perspective.

To be able to have detailed knowledge about one or more periods of history.

To be able to identify sources of information and to utilise them appropriately (bibliography, documents, oral testimonies, etc.).

Ability to organise complex historical information in a coherent manner.

Being aware of the necessity of following the current developments in the field, to be able to scan (library and informatics) and use the resources in Turkish and foreign languages and to gain the habit of lifelong learning.

To be able to read historical texts or original documents in his/her own language, to understand and use the texts in the source languages; to gain the ability to summarise or transcribe and to catalogue the information in an appropriate way.

To gain the ability to write in one's own language by using various schools of historiography correctly.
